Contents page analysis: 1,2,3

The two NME covers follow the same three colour pallet each week- red, black and white- which is continuous from the cover page. It also has the name of the magazine followed by the mast head 'This week' across the left side third, this is because this will be the first thing the reader sees. 'This week' is written in a bold- which is usually black or white- colour and has the date, month and year written underneath it, which is written in white. The left side third, contains a band index, which has a list of bands mentioned in the magazine, this is effective as it will be easy to navigate through the magazine, however, I think this should be on the right as it does not contain the vital information, which in this magazine is placed on the right. The subheadings: news, radar, reviews, live! and features should be in the left side third because this is the main contents the magazine has to offer and is the main information on the page, however, they are written in a white bold font with a black rectangle around it, and the numbers are written in red are placed to the right of the subject, however, it is not the clearest thing on the page to read, but it will still help to navigate. The picture(s) is in the centre of the page with all the writing spread around it, this is because it is one of their main articles which is more likely to attract the reader to that page. The final things we see, which is a regular feature of the magazine, is the subscription, this is not the main page of the page, so this is placed at the bottom as the reader will read that last, however, it is placed in a black rectangle with a yellow colour font, which differs from the original colour pallet of red, black and white.

For the contents page of Q magazine, in the top left hand corner it has the logo, Q, with the word 'Contents' written in white, which is big and bold, and has a black rectangle around it which runs across the top of the page, as the end of this black rectangle it has the date, month and year- which is also in a white font to follow the same colour pallet of NME of: red, black and white, this contents page also has a bit of blue in the right hand corner. On the left side third it contains the 'features' of what is going to be in this magazine. This is written again in white, however, instead of the black rectangle it is a red rectangle, which differs from the top where it says 'contents'. Underneath, just like NME, the numbers are written before the subject and written in red, which is clear next to the black writing. At the bottom, 'every month', which again is written in white with a red rectangle, suggests that some of the pages which are contain in the magazine all the time, and on the same pages every time. The picture here, is place across the middle and right side, this is because the writing is more important than the picture, even though the picture contains a page number, and then a pull quote, which will be taken from the article. The final thing on the page is the Q review, which is written in red, however, goes back to being in a black rectangle. The writing is then based on a light blue background, this differs from the main background of white, this could be because it's in the right hand corner, which will be read last, and instead on be based on a white back ground is based on this light blue to attract the readers eye. It stands out.

The contents page of Vibe differents everytime a new magazine comes out. It doesn't seem to follow the same colour pallet each week or the same page layout. On this contents page, the word 'Contents' is spread across the right hand side of the page, and is quite big as it takes up alot of the right hand corner. It is written in a white and bold font, which seems to stand out from the grey background. The picture is central and fills up alot of the page, which then draws the readers attention to this which may also be because the male gaze could be added to get more teenage boys to read the magazine as the pose it seductive. Nothing is situated across the left side thrid, meaning that when the readers read they will not get any information as all the information is to the right. The 'features' section is going towards the right hand side of the page and is all written in black, this is different from NME and Q as their information is not towards the bottom of the page, because the features part is at the bottom, the picture will grab the readers attention first, meaning that the written information is not well presented as all the focus is lost from it. The 'features' part of the magazine seems to be the only part of 'Vibe' which remains the same when each magazine is on sale throughout the year. This contents page seems less busy to look at than the other two, however, I feel that Vibe is less popular than NME and Q, so less attention is paid to the detail of the overall editing.
