My magazine style

The thing I like about this magazine is the mast head. I like how each letter alternates from being in little square boxes- letters 'W' 'R' and 'D' with a white font to having the peach colour 'I' and 'E' out of the box. I think I would style my masthead around this, however, I would change the peach colour for a colour white could be targeted at both male and females. The colours I could use are: red, black, grey, blue, green or orange. I like how this magazine has stuck to 3 colours: peach, white and black as any more colours would distracting and I would also like to stick to a 3 colour pallet.

I like the picture style from this magazine and how it is done in black and white. It shows a minimalistic style which isn't over crowding the page. Again, the pink colour may be targeted towards females. I would like my magazine to follow the same picture pattern of being white and black to keep the style minimalistic and focus more on the masthead writing and the puff fonts.

I like the pose that is being used here. It is showing the person has confidence with the hands on the hips. I would like my cover person/people to use this pose as it is very neutral and calm, it doesn't seem to be too posed or over the top, which will again link in with the black and white theme picture to keep it as minimalistic as possible, however, I don't like how the writing is styled round the picture as it makes it harder to read- I don't think I'll be using this as part of my magazine as I want it to be easy to read yet eye catching.

I also like the pose here too, as the picture is a close up of the artist- who is looking directly at the camera- a pose which I would like to combine with the hands on the hip to make it relaxed. I liked how the black is used round her eyes, on her nails and the gloves as it all links together. I think this would be better with more text on the front as it doesn't give any insight into what the magazine is about.

The main thing I like about this magazine in the black font on the white background. It varies from a black bold font to a bold pink font as headers. This stands out as it makes it easy to read and all the text is written in the left side third and right side with the picture being the main focus point in the middle.

Overall, I have decided I will be using the mast head style of the first magazine, the picture colour(in black and white) from the second magazine, the pose from the third and continuous colour scheme(so any accessories or make up the model will be wearing) from the forth magazine and finally using the fifth magazine as a base, so having the picture in the middle, with the writing round it and two different colour for the fonts- one for the puffs and one for the text underneath.

  1. Thanks Jemma. Now I have a better idea of what you are trying to do. Start thinking about your artist. What are they going to be like? Remember you're creating a whole person they need an attitude as well as a wardrobe. Try and think of existing artists who they might remind us of.

    Good work, keep it up.
