The main theory of The Golden Spiral is that the spiral shows us where our eyes are automatically attracted to when we first look at an image and the part we find most aesthetically pleasing. The photo needs to have a focal point where the eye will naturally be drawn to- which is often the top left corner- and the focus needs to spiral out from this area.
In this photo, the golden spiral starts from the centre of the flower, where our eyes is first attracted to, then we follow round the rest of the flower. In this photo, the main focus point is not towards the top left- which is where we usually focus our eyes- however it still works as it allows us to follow the spiral round.
