After having a think about music related words, I have decided I would like my title to be a monosyllabic word as it would be easy for people to remember as polysyllabic words are often longer and will take more time to remember. The first thing I did was researching music words. A list of popular words I came up with were:
- String
- Bass
- Microphone
- Stream
- Alto
- Crescendo
- Melody
- Beat
Out of all those, I like the word 'Beat' as it refers to a basic time unit of music which often connotes the tempo of a piece or a particular sequence of individual beats. Beat is the word that people often relate to hip-hop and R&B music, however, as I am not basing my magazine on this, I considered not to use it. I then decided to look into songs from artists who are considered to have a genre of 'Rock/ Alternative' so I started searching for song titles from artists such as: Kasabian, Florence + the Machine, The Jam and Michael Jackson. At first, I did think of using the title 'Beat It', however, after thinking about it, I have decided not to use it as it could refer to drumming.
After this, I considered to change the language from English to French. I have taken the word 'Melody' to change it into 'Mélodie' and I have also considered taking the word 'Rock music' which would be translated into the word 'Roche musique' I like both of these ideas, but they are too toned down for a rock magazine.
I then started looking at magazines already out there which have been considered to have a genre of rock. Some of the following names were: Revolver, Rolling Stone, Spin and Alternative press. I have decided to take the word 'Revolution'- which means 'turn around' and keep in the word rock, so in English the magazine would be called 'Revolution Rock', however, I still like the idea of changing the language so:
- English- Revolution Rock
- French- Roche de révolution
- Spanish- Roca de revolución
- German- Revolutionsfelsen
- Portuguese-Rocha de revolução
